Answers to your Questions

How can I overcome problems when exporting or importing data that contains commas and quotes?
Since the data we enter frequently contains quote and comma characters, it is often easier to use some character which is rarely typed as a field separator or quote character. Most databases let us specify. If there is a box to type the character you want to use, you can use special ASCII characters, I.e., those with codes greater than 127. To type the character press and hold the Alt key and then type zero and the character code on the numeric keypad.
Why won't my DVD work with trial presentation software?
DVD use in the electronic trial presentation area can be confusing. Many videographers now record depostions on DVD discs as "true" DVDs. While these discs may play well in the typical home DVD player, they are often incompatible with trial presentation software. The typical trial presentation software uses either an MPEG1 or MPEG2 file for displaying a video. These files incorporate both audio and video in one file and can be played back in most of today's computers. The MPEG1 and MPEG2 files function by themselves. Copying from an MPEG1 or MPEG2 file to your hard drive will still allow it to be played or used in your presentation software. Copying all the files from a "true" DVD will usually render the information of little or no use, since the computer software really expects the information to be on a disc with a strictly defined structure.
What is Video Deposition Synchronization?
If you have a video depostion and the text transcription of that deposition, you can have the video synchronized to the scrolling text. As the deponent speaks, you hear the audio as well as see the scrolling/highlighted text of the audio. For some depostions, seeing the highlighted text in conjunction with the video is very effective. For example, where the audio is difficult to understand, the synchronized text can be invaluable in helping a witness or jury understand what is being said while still maintaining all the effect the video produces.
Can we use PowerPoint for trial presentation?
While PowerPoint and similar programs can be used to prepare very sophisticated presentations, they aren't very good for electronic trial presentations. These programs generally lack the flexibility for zoom, pan and markups that true trial presentation programs like TrialDirector and Sanction II have.
